Monsal Head,Bakewell, Derbyshire. We will visit Hob’s House landslip including the eponymous ‘coral bed’ in the morning, followed by lunch at Monsal Head. The afternoon will consist of a circular walk (approx 3-4 km) from Ashford village, some rough ground and steepish gradients may be encountered. This will give us an opportunity to see the remains of past industries centred on the black marble and chert of the area. There will be an optional extension to this walk to look at Magpie Mine and if time allows a visit to a ‘new’ roadside cutting just outside Bakewell where the leader has found trilobite remains!
